MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Canada’s Enbridge Energy is about to be hit with massive penalties for the 2010 oil spill in Calhoun County that sent more than 877,000,000 gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River. The Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Justice Department say they have a “major announcement” today at 11 a.m. regarding the largest inland oil spill in U.S. history.
WOOD-TV cites anonymous sources in reporting the company will be fined $62 million and will be ordered to pay another $120 million for preventative measures to keep a similar spill from happening again.
