BURLINGTON, MI (WTVB) -A 21-year-old man who had a probation violation warrant out of Branch County is in the Calhoun County Jail after he allegedly fired a weapon and assaulted a 35-year-old man and the suspect’s 23-year-old sister with a baseball bat at a Burlington home on Thursday afternoon.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says they were dispatched to what was reported to be a large fight in the 200 block of East Leroy Street at about 3:15 p.m.
No one was struck by the gunfire but the suspect had gotten away before deputies arrived. He was later located by a Calhoun County K-9 after a lengthy search of the area.
Charges are being sought for two counts of felonious assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
The name of the suspect is being withheld pending arraignment. Michigan State Police and Life Care Ambulance assisted.
