KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Despite not being in agreement, the Kalamazoo Township board will consider a change in park rules that will allow guns along county-owned trails in the township.
The rules would still ban bows and arrows, paintball guns and pellet guns without special permission, but because of state law, the township doesn’t have the authority to also ban guns, which prompted surprise from more than one trustee.
Kalamazoo County changed the rule six years ago when they were informed they didn’t have the authority to ban guns. They forgot to notify the township, however.
They would still be able to enforce local and state laws against actually firing the guns, which is strictly prohibited in most areas of the community.
The rule change will be back in two weeks for a final vote.
