BANGOR (WKZO-AM) — Two men have been killed in a fiery head-on wreck in Van Buren County.
Van Buren County Sheriff’s investigators say they were dispatched at 5:19 a.m. Sunday to the 46000 block of M-43 just east of Bangor. First responders said both vehicles were engulfed in flames when they arrived and the drivers were trapped inside.
Deputies say it appears a black 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup was travelling westbound on M-43 when it crossed the centerline and slammed head-on into a red 2001 Pontiac Aztek as it was travelling eastbound.
Both were tossed off opposite sides of the road, the wrecks unrecognizable and debris was scattered all over the pavement.
The flames were so intense that it will likely take autopsies to positively identify the victims, but both have been tentatively identified as white males.
The roadway was closed for six hours for the clean-up and accident investigation.
UPDATE: 6/7 at 11:58 a.m. — The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Casey Aaron-Donald Snyder of Claire and 20-year-old Quinten Reed Greiner of Midland. The investigation remains ongoing, per a press relese.
