BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man whose parole for a 2000 armed robbery was scheduled to end this week was formally charged with fleeing and eluding on Monday in Calhoun County.
46-year-old Charles David Allen was accused after leading officers from several agencies on a wild one hour high-speed chase Friday night which started in Calhoun County’s Pennfield Township as a traffic stop for improper plates.
The pursuit did not end until it had gotten all the way to Texas Township on the other side of Kalamazoo along I-94. Police say Allen tried to make a run for it but was captured after a short foot pursuit.
Police say Allen and an occupant of the vehicle were seen tossing things from his pickup truck. They are still trying to find and identify those items.
Records from the Michigan Department of Corrections show Allen was convicted of armed robbery in February of 2001. He was given a sentence of 14 to 28 years. Allen was placed on parole in June of 2014. His discharge from parole was scheduled for this Friday.
