BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Barring any delays, the man Battle Creek police say is responsible for a heinous act of domestic abuse will be in court today, to hear the evidence against him.
Christopher Carpenter, 31, has been charged with open murder for the beating death of his wife, who died in December a few days after he dropped her off at the emergency room. He then fled the area.
He only dropped her off if she promised to blame the beating on a group of women, according to investigators. She told detectives that it was her estranged husband, who invaded her home and then savagely beat her with his fists.
The preliminary hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to send Carpenter to trial for murder.
It may take a few days to hear the testimony before the judge rules.
