KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Unemployment in the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo areas finished higher to begin 2016.
The January rate jumped from 3.9 percent to 4.4 percent in Calhoun County. It increased from 3.5 percent to 4.1 percent over the same time in the Kalamazoo and Van Buren County areas.
Both rates are about 1.5 percent lower than figures from the same time last year.
Michigan’s unemployment rate dropped two-tenths in January to 4.9 percent, matching the national average.
