KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Consumers Energy is planting a sprawling solar garden at the Western Michigan University Business, Technology and Research Park in Kalamazoo.
Bob Miller is with WMU and said the installation near U.S. 131 is part of a collaboration between the school and the utility.
“The partnership includes a commitment on the part of Consumers Energy to work with our faculty at the College of Engineering with research initiatives and offer opportunities for our students relative to alternative energy education,” Miller said.
Consumers will own and operate the garden, which will add roughly a megawatt to the grid.
Miller said it’s expected to be operational within the next few weeks.
