KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The youngest survivor of February’s shooting rampage in Kalamazoo is recovering after a surgery to replace a portion of her skull left missing since the attack.
The update was posted on a family-run Twitter page outlining the recovery progress of Abigail Kopf. According to that page, she was in surgery for about three hours Friday morning.
Kopf, 14, was one of five people shot outside the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Texas Township, allegedly by Jason Dalton, 45. After being initially pronounced dead, Kopf was the only person to survive the incident.
Dalton, who claimed his Uber app controlled his mind during three separate shootings in the metropolitan area, is accused of killing six and wounding two others.
Kopf was hospitalized for two months after the attack. She returned to her family’s home in Battle Creek in April.
A second online fund established to help offset Kopf’s long-term medical expenses has surpassed $50,000.
The second survivor, Tiana Carruthers, 25, is recovering at home after getting shot four times while protecting children at a townhome complex northeast of Kalamazoo.
