UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — SmartAsset.com has ranked Kalamazoo third in a listing of best cities for working artists and other creative people.
The presence of Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College and the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo helped push the city past creative hubs like Nashville and Austin, Texas. Southwest Michigan First CEO Ron Kitchens says it also helps that most creative people based in Kalamazoo don’t have to take second jobs to pay the rent.
“We have lots of jobs that pay good or great salaries, but our cost of living is so low,” Kitchens said.
Respectively, Salt Lake City and New Orleans finished on top.
