LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Legislation is on Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk that would make it more difficult for drug-makers to gain access to the ingredients needed to make methamphetamine.
It was sponsored by Sen. Margaret O’Brien.
“Kalamazoo County, unfortunately, has always been a leader is meth-contaminated homes and meth convictions,” O’Brien said. “It’s been quite a problem.”
The bipartisan package expands current penalties for buying pseudoephedrine for meth-makers.
“The legislation will offer both a misdemeanor and felony option to prosecutors,” O’Brien said. “Another bill in the package makes sure that anyone convicted of either a misdemeanor or felony is prohibited from getting pseudoephedrine for five years,” O’Brien said.
The Republican from Portage expects the governor to sign the bills.
