BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Flames shot through the roof of an apartment building at the Pines of Pennfield apartment complex on the north side of Battle Creek near Bailey Park Wednesday morning.
The blaze was reported just before 9:00 a.m. Pennfield firefighters got assistance from Battle Creek crews.
Reports indicate everybody got out of the burning building safely and all of the residents have been accounted for. It’s not known how the fire got started.
A spokesperson at the Pennfield Fire Department said one person suffered burns and was taken to a nearby hospital. The severity of the burns is not known. A cat and a dog were also rescued.
WOOD-TV and WWMT-TV reported that a mother had to throw her one year old son off a third floor balcony to several people on the ground in order to save him from the flames.
The American Red Cross has been called in to assist those who have been affected by the fire.
