KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — With summer fast approaching, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is reminding people to not keep kids and pets locked inside hot vehicles.
“A car that is closed up will have its temperature raised about 20 degrees within 10 minutes,” Fuller said.
He also said it’s a growing problem.
“Thirty-seven children a year, on average, will lose their lives because they’ve been left inside a car that has overheated their systems and they had no way of getting out,” Fuller said.
Prosecutors in Grand Rapids are considering charges against a woman whose two-year-old granddaughter had to be rescued from a car parked outside a Walmart last Saturday. The woman was inside the store shopping, according to investigators.
