KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office holds awards ceremonies two or three times a year, handing out certificates and awards to deputies, staff members and sometimes citizens who act in a brave or life-saving manner.
On Tuesday, they held their first ceremony since the mass-murder in Kalamazoo. Awards were handed out to the deputy who made the arrest, a dispatcher who talked with one of the victims before she died and members of the forensic staff.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller said they also handed out awards to other staff members, like one that came to the rescue of a suicidal jail inmate.
He says they do a tough job and, when they do it well, they should be honored.
