COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was publicly dressed down and ordered to serve nine months in the Branch County Jail Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a guilty plea to a charge of dealing marijuana.
30-year-old Joshua Fields entered the plea in September as part of plea agreement with prosecutors. Two other similar charges were dismissed by the state in exchange for the plea.
Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimble expressed his displeasure with the Michigan Department of Corrections recommendation for suspended jail time calling it ludicrous and ridiculous.
While Fields said he was truly sorry and that his family supported him, Kimble and Judge Bill O’Grady both called him a drug dealer during the sentencing hearing.
Fields was also placed on probation for two years and was given credit for one day served in jail.
