UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — It’s become a holiday tradition.
Today is “Adoption Day” in Michigan’s family courts.
Dozens of children will be going through the final court process to become members of their “forever families.”
Health and Human Services Spokesman Bob Wheaton said it happens in a court that is usually very depressing, processing divorces and separating unfit parents from their children.
It’s one of the happiest days in family court all year. He says it’s like giving family to children who don’t have much and just in time for the holidays.
Ceremonies were scheduled in Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Cass, Berrien, Barry, Calhoun and Van Buren Counties. It has already happended in Ottawa County at the Courthouse in West Olive.
Ceremonies for several counties were to be held at the Ingham Hall of Justice in Lansing, presided over by Chief Justice Robert Young. By the end of the day, 100 children were scheduled to have new homes and families.
