ALBION (WKZO-AM) — An Albion man charged with assault for allegedly beating a man nearly to death during a dispute over a drug debt, will likely face murder charges now that his victim has died.
Police were initially called to a home on Erie Street on a report of a man having and overdose.
It was only after 24-year-old Andrew Bolton arrived at Emergency that they determined the man had a severe closed head injury, and had been assaulted.
Known felon Maurice Berry was arrested and formally charged with assault yesterday, and ordered held on $500,000 bond.
Not long after that Bolton died from his injuries at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Charges against the 28-year-old Berry could be upgraded to murder at any time.
