BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A Battle Creek man has been charged with multiple counts after he struck two men making a pick-up in a funeral home van, and then fled the scene.
Battle Creek Police say two men from the Baxter Funeral Home were dispatched to a house in the 100 block of Post Avenue where a 60-year-old man had died from natural causes on Saturday.
They were in the process of putting the body into the van when the suspect’s car came out of nowhere, struck them and kept on going.
Police found the car abandoned nearby on Inn Road. The registration led them to the suspect’s home, about a block from the crash scene where the man confessed to drinking beer and smoking marijuana before getting behind the wheel.
He is being held for driving under the influence, and without a license, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. The two funeral home workers suffered minor injuries and are expected to recover.
