HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – One person was killed in a Hillsdale County house fire on Saturday morning. Police later seized a large amount of marijuana plants from the home.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department says a home at 2120 North Adams Road was fully engulfed in flames when deputies and firefighters arrived after Hillsdale County Central Dispatch got a call about the fire from a family member at about 6:45am.
The caller also said there was possibly a man still inside the residence.
After firefighters from Jonesville, Moscow and North Adams put the fire out, human remains were found inside the residence. Deputies were not able to positively identify the subject.
An investigation by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office is ongoing.
The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal’s office spoke with family members it was determined the property owner of the residence was a medical marijuana card holder and had medical marijuana at the residence.
A large number of marijuana plants were seized from the residence at the request of family members.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department and the State Police Fire Marshall Division are continuing their investigations.
