MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) -The old Calhoun County Jail is about ready to meet the wrecking ball.
Demolition of the 62 year old building which is located behind the Calhoun County Building on West Green Street in Marshall is expected to begin around October 17 and be completed by the end of November.
Bierlein Companies will be tearing down the building. The Calhoun County Land Bank and Calhoun County government are partnering on the demolition.
The Sheriff’s Office used to be in the building but most of the operations were transferred to the Calhoun County Correctional Facility in Battle Creek in 1994.
The building was completely closed in 2013.
Once the demolition is complete, the County plans to use the space for an expanded parking lot which officials say is much needed.
Crews worked on the building over the summer in preparation for the demolition.
Land Bank staff will distribute information to neighbors prior to the demolition, and anyone with questions can call (269)781-0777.
