KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Sunday morning at about 3:30 Public Safety was dispatched to the 2500 block of Redwood Avenue, just West of WMU, on a report of shots fired.
They found a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and a 21-year-old woman from Sterling Heights who had been shot once by the a gunman in that vehicle.
The suspect’s auto crashed into a tree and the driver managed to escape on foot, leaving the loaded stolen revolver in the car.
They were able to track down the 24-year-old suspect, a man from Ohio and take him into custody on an outstanding warrant, pending the issuance of additional charges.
During the investigation, they also arrested a 25-year-old Kalamazoo man who was carrying a loaded 9mm handgun.
The woman who was shot suffered a non-life threatening wound and was treated at Bronson Methodist. Its not clear if she was targeted, or just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
