KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Crews will begin work Monday on a season-spanning Interstate 94 repaving project from Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo to just west of South 40th Street in Galesburg.
The $5.8 million project will begin days after reconstruction at Exit 88 near Galesburg is finished. The $12 million project at Exit 88 was scheduled for completion on Friday.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said drivers can expect partial lane closures until work is suspended in November.
“We don’t want to start until the evening rush is done,” Schirripa said. “And we want to be out of the way before the morning commute begins.”
The overnight closures will span from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Mondays through Thursdays and 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Fridays.
If weather cooperates, crews will resume reconstruction on 15-lane-mile stretch in April.
