BENTON HARBOR (WKZO AM/FM) A hearing has now been set to hear a motion by the Prosecutor to charge a 16-year-old Benton Harbor boy as an adult for an alleged sexual assault on a postal worker.
The Berrien County Prosecutor’s office says Matthew Griffis, of Benton Harbor, is at the Berrien County Juvenile Detention Center with bond set at $150,000 following the alleged attack on Friday.
It happened around noon while the female letter carrier was working in the area of McAllister Street.
The posecutor’s office says Griffis forcibly dragged the woman to the side of his house, sexually assaulted her, and then went back inside.
That’s where the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety found him not long after. Griffis is charged with kidnapping and second degree criminal sexual conduct.
The kidnapping charge comes with a penalty of up to life in prison if charged as an adult.
The hearing is scheduled for April 18.
