BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — An accidental auto shop fire in a locked tool storage area is being blamed for causing around $45,000 damage to the Calhoun Area Career Center in Battle Creek.
It happened early Tuesday. Firefighters were greeted with smoke coming from the roof of the single-story building on East Roosevelt Avenue around 4 a.m.
The fire forced a closure of the school Tuesday, allowing for the sprinkler system to be put back in service.
It’s not clear what specifically sparked the fire.
Investigators say a quick response led to over $1 million in property and contents being saved.
