KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is an atypical candidate for governor, who says he has learned a few things while on his “listening tour” of the state.
He met with Kalamazoo County Democrats at Theos and Stacy’s on Wednesday before making a stop on the Western Michigan University campus to talk with students there. He said, while many view Michigan as three distinct regions, he says Detroit, the upper peninsula and west Michigan have much in common.
They are all “seeking ways to build the 21st century economy and improve the state’s schools,” El-Sayed said. He also said they have many other issues in common as well.
The former director of the Detroit Health Department said the things he’s learning will help him refine his policies and put together a campaign that makes sense to voters. He thinks voters are still looking for something different and he can offer differences from the current crop in Lansing.
