KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — A fatal collision on a residential street in Kalamazoo is being blamed on speed.
Dead is 32-year-old Demetreus Antwan Betts of Kalamazoo. The name of the other driver has not been released. It happened at about 3:45 a.m. in the Stuart Neighborhood on Thursday.
Police say one car was racing south down Woodward Avenue, shot through the stop sign and hit a car on Kalamazoo Avenue broadside, forcing both vehicles onto the front lawn of a home across the street.
The force of the impact knocked the engine out of one of the vehicles and left the other on its roof.
Betts was dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in stable condition.
Kalamazoo Public Safety is trying to determine just how fast the at-fault driver was going.
