HARTFORD TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) –A collision between a woman driving her kids to school and a tractor-trailer in rural Van Buren County has resulted in one death and two children losing their mother.
State Police Lt. Dale Hinz says that Deborah Baier of Waterviliet failed to stop at the stop sign at County Road 687 and 66th Avenue in Hartford Township and was struck by the big rig, which had the right of way.
She died from her injuries at the scene of the 7:30 am crash.
They will be interviewing her two sons, aged 6 and 8, and checking her phone records to determine if she was distracted in anyway. Other routine tests will be conducted.
Both boys were transported to Bronson Methodist ER for treatment of minor injuries.
Records show this is a particularly dangerous intersection where multiple wrecks and five fatalities have been recorded over the last decade.
