BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM)– Battle Creek Police say they got an assist from a couple of witnesses to a violent mugging that occurred in the first block of W.Van Buren just after 3 pm.
They saw a man knock down a Willard Library employee leaving work and take her purse after a brief tug of war. They then chased the man to a residence in the 100 block of Calhoun Street, where he barricaded himself inside, refusing to come out.
Eventually the 29-year-old parole violator from Kalamazoo was talked into surrendering, positively identified by the witnesses, and booked for strong armed robbery at the Calhoun County Jail.’
The victim required treatment for minor injuries by EMT’s. The purse was recovered and returned to the victim.
