COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police have released a description of the car believed to be involved in a hit and run pedestrian accident Tuesday in Coldwater Township.
Troopers say a 20-year old Coldwater woman was struck while walking on the shoulder of the road along Michigan Avenue near Newton Road north of Coldwater around 6:45 p.m.Tuesday night. According to State Police, the victim was hit by the side mirror on the passenger side of the 4-door SUV, which was northbound on Michigan Avenue.
The woman used her cell phone to call her sister, who went to the scene of the accident and drove the victim back to her home, where they called 911 to report the incident. The woman was transported by Life Care Ambulance to the Community Health Center of Branch County where she was treated and then released at 2:30 a.m.Wednesday.
The woman was interviewed by troopers at the post in Coldwater where she told them she worked at the Clemens Food Group facility on Newton Road east of Michigan Avenue and I-69. She said when her ride failed to arrive when she got out of work, she decided to walk home and it was dark when the accident occurred.
Michigan State Police located the side mirror of the car at the scene of the incident, and using a serial number on the mirror, were able to identify the type of vehicle. The mirror was used on the 1995-2002 Honda 4-door CRV.
The victim, whose name is not being released at this time, told troopers the car that struck her was black in color. They are asking that anyone with information on the accident to contact Michigan State Police in Marshall at (269)558-0500.
