BANGOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A couple in an SUV apparently got lost, went off the dead end of 36th Street in the dark, and ended up breaking through the ice on School Section Lake in Van Buren County’s Bangor Township just after 8:00 p.m. Friday.
The woman who was driving managed to get out, get back to shore, and get help at a nearby home. Members of the South Haven Area Emergency Services team rescued 22 year old Jezreel Wallace, of Bangor, MI, approximately one hour later.
He was transported to Bronson Hospital in South Haven, where he was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
The driver, a 21 year old female from South Haven, Michigan, is currently being treated for injuries at Bronson Hospital in South Haven.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
