COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police say a 15-year old suffered head injuries when he was assaulted several times by his father, who was arrested following a domestic dispute Wednesday night this week in Branch County’s Ovid Township.
The son of 43-year old Jeffrey Bodine called 911 around 9 pm from their home on Buck Road near Lake of the Woods south of Coldwater. Troopers say the father had been drinking before the argument and yelling between the two began when Bodine threw his phone at his son, hitting him in the head. According to State Police, the dad then punched the boy twice in the face.
There were no injuries serious enough to require an ambulance to be called.
Troopers said Bodine admitted to tossing the phone and also once striking his son. Bodine was arraigned yesterday in District Court on charges of domestic assault and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. State Police said the father was carrying a handgun, for which he had a concealed pistol license. The .45 caliber semi-automatic revolver was seized pending the outcome of the case against Bodine.
A $2,000 cash or surety bond was set for Bodine, which he posted Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to return to District Court for a probable cause hearing January 22, 2018.
