COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Battle Creek man wanted on charges of kidnapping and driving a stolen vehicle with improper plates was arrested following a high speed chase involving police agencies from two counties on Sunday night.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says 31-year-old Joshua Allan Miller was booked in Branch County on preliminary charges of Felonious Assault with a Vehicle along with Fleeing and Eluding.
Miller has been taken to the Calhoun County Jail where he will face charges there.
A report will be submitted to the Branch County prosecutors office but it maybe awhile before Miller is formally charged in Branch County.
Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler says the pursuit reached speeds of over 100 miles an hour as it went south on I-69 from Calhoun County.
A Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to deploy Stop Sticks at the Dayburg Road overpass, flattening the tires of the suspect vehicle. The chase slowed down to around 95 mph as the suspect’s tires started coming apart at Jonesville Road.
The chase then exited onto U.S. 12 and headed towards downtown Coldwater.
After the chase went through a red light at Michigan Avenue, a Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to end the pursuit by pinning the vehicle into the curb at Munson Street. The suspect was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Units involved in the chase included Battle Creek and Marshall Police, the Branch and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Departments and the Michigan State Police. Eichler says Branch County and Calhoun County Sheriff units sustained minor damage during the chase.
