KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM)– Michigan’s first declared candidate for Governor, Gretchen Whitmer came by for a chat during a tour of the territory, looking for volunteer campaign help, and raising money as her campaign gets rolling.
Whitmer touched on some current issues, including a Federal Judges dismissal of a letter from the Attorney General supporting the lawsuit of a group of clergy, suing the state to get them to fund bottled water for flint.
She says Schuette “lead with his chin on this and the judge popped him for abusing the process for his own political benefit”.
Bill Schuette is a likely but still undeclared candidate for Governor.
She also chastised the State Reform Office for putting two Kalamazoo Elementary Schools on a possible closure list, when it’s obvious that management isn’t the problem.
She says Dr.Michael Rice is a role model for other school superintendents and “some of the things being done in Kalamazoo schools are being replicated elsewhere”.
Whitmer is a former Michigan Senate Minority Leader who more recently served as Interim Ingham County Prosecutor after criminal charges forced Stuart Dunnings III to step down.
