ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – Steuben County Prosecutors have filed five charges against a Fort Wayne woman following a July 15, 2017 accident on Lake Gage in which 10 people were thrown from a speeding boat. The accident happend just south of the Michigan-Indiana border in Steuden County.
Among those thrown into the water was the driver, 20-year-old Dominique Effinger, who is now facing felony charges of Operating a Motorboat While Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person and Operating a Motorboat with an Alcohol Concentration Equivalent to at least .08 Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury to Another Person.
Effinger is facing three other alcohol-related misdemeanors. Prosecutors say the investigation is continuing and additional charges could be filed.
She is currently free on bond but a summons will be issued and a formal reading charges in court will be scheduled at a later time.
Two persons were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital with serious injuries. Others suffered non-life threatening injuries.
After all of the occupants were thrown out, the boat spun out of control at about 30 miles an hour.
It struck a dock and a patrol boat before an Indiana Conservation Office managed to get on board and bring it to a stop.
