KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Rep. Dave Maturen will be missing out on the next couple of days in Lansing as he recovers from a car wreck that left him with multiple broken bones.
The Republican from Vicksburg was on his way Friday afternoon to participate in the Cereal Festival Parade in Battle Creek when he was involved in a single car accident in Climax Township.
He said he misjudged a vehicle turning ahead of him, swerved off the road to avoid a crash and hit a tree instead.
We talked to him as he was enjoying a grilled cheese sandwich in his hospital bed at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He said he will miss a few hearings this week, but hopes to begin an accelerated Rehab program at Borgess. He hopes doctors will clear him to return to the capitol next week, where there may be a vote on the budget and other matters.
After that, the legislature goes into a two-month recess for the summer and he will have plenty of time to recover.
He says his office will continue to function and provide constituent services. Maturen represents the 63rd House District that includes the eastern half of Kalamazoo County and the southern two-thirds of Calhoun County.
