CAMDEN, MI (WTVB) – A two vehicle crash at a Hillsdale County intersection injured four persons Wednesday night and led to the arrest of one of the drivers who tried to make a run for it as he was wanted on warrants for child support and violating his probation. He also had a suspended driver’s license.
Michigan State Police say the accident happened at the intersection of East Territorial and South Bird Lake Roads in Camden Township at about 6:00 p.m.
Troopers say a vehicle operated by a 37 year old man from Waldron, who had a 34 year old female passenger with him, was travelling too fast and failed to stop at the intersection where it was struck by a westbound vehicle being operated by a 64 year old woman from Waldron who had a 74 year old passenger.
Both vehicles went into a nearby field. The at-fault vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its top. The driver then fled on foot before he was found about a mile away coming out of a wooded area.
Both occupants from the westbound vehicle were taken to Hillsdale Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the at fault vehicle were treated at the scene.
The arrested driver was lodged at the Hillsdale County Jail. State Police say he was also suspected of being under the influence of marijuana.
A request for additional charges relating to the crash is being sought against him through the Hillsdale County Prosecutors office.
