DETROIT (WKZO-AM/FM) — A baseball standout from Battle Creek is working on a contract to join the Tigers organization.
Former Lakeview High School star Jake Bivens was taken by Detroit last week in the 27th round of the Major League Baseball draft.
The infielder hit .273 last season with the University of Michigan.
Both sides are still working on a contract that would send Bivens to the minors. If the deal isn’t struck, the infielder will head back to Ann Arbor for his senior season.
Portage Central High School’s Jeff Criswell was also taken by the Tigers in the 35th round.
