BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — An early-morning fire has caused considerable damage to a home on Rittenhouse Avenue in Battle Creek.
There were no working smoke detectors in the home. Fire crews were dispatched at 4:37 a.m. Saturday.
Because the fire was in their living room and front porch, occupants had to escape through their bedroom windows. Owner Tyray Robbinson was able to get himself and his five children out of the home, but the family dog was trapped inside.
They estimate the damage at $30,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents.
