SPRINGFIELD, MI (WTVB) – An 11-year-old girl is dead and two adults are in critical condition after deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department discovered them unconscious in a home in the 700 block of West Michigan Avenue in Springfield that had a gas powered generator inside.
There was no power inside and a citizen called the Sheriff’s Department after being concerned about the exhaust fumes.
It was found that the generator was being used to power a kerosene heater which created an extreme amount of carbon monoxide to accumulate within the building.
The girl died at a nearby hospital. A 44 year old male and 41 year old female are still hospitalized.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
