PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Calhoun County Deputies are blaming speed for a fatal accident that claimed the life of a young man who crashed into a UPS Truck early Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Steve Hinkley says the collision occurred on Bellevue Road just after 1 pm when the delivery van slowed to turn into a driveway and the speeding SUV driven by the victim slammed into its rear end.
The impact violently spun the larger UPS truck around. Despite that the UPS driver was not injured. The SUV driver, a 21 year old from Battle Creek was rushed to Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo where he later died from his injuries.
They are investigating a gun found on the gurney used to transport him to the hospital. Toxicology tests will be conducted to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved.
