DETROIT (WKZO AM/FM) — It was the closest vote in the history of the Mr. Basketball awards competition in Michigan but Kalamazoo Central’s Isaiah Livers has won the state’s top honor.
Xavier Tillman of Grand Rapids Christian actually got more first place votes in the polls of the members of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, but Livers received more 2nd and 3rd place votes and won for the total number of points.
During his acceptance speech he credited losing weight for his improved vertical jump, and he thanked his family too.
Here are the stats on Livers. The power forward scored an average of 17.5 points a game with 14 rebounds on the court, and a 3.5 g.p.a. off the court.
The winner was announced Monday in Detroit. He has already committed to become a Wolverine and play at the University of Michigan next year.
