STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Sturgis Police say two out of three persons hurt in a traffic accident late Thursday afternoon suffered life threatening injuries. The three car wreck happened at South Centreville Road and South Street just after 5:00 p.m.
Police say it started with a head-on collision. A third car then came along and struck one of the vehicles involved in the first crash.
Sturgis Deputy Police Chief Ryan Banaszack says it took nearly an hour for fire rescue crews to free the three victims from the wreckage.
A 46-year-old man from Sturgis is reported to be in critical condition at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. A ten year old girl who was a passenger is in serious condition in the Pediatric Trauma unit at Bronson.
The second driver, a 36-year-old man from Three Rivers, is in stable condition at Sturgis Hospital.
The third driver involved was not injured.
Sturgis Police continue to investigate the crash. They were assisted by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and Life Care Ambulance.
