QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Some Quincy students are turning up the heat on Quincy School Administrators over what they feel was administration inaction concerning the alleged behavior of a former teacher.
This follows a stormy Quincy Board of Education meeting last week when a large audience filled with angry parents demanded answers about how school officials managed allegations against former teacher Jason Farrell who was arrested last month and is facing sexual assault charges involving a female student.
Students gathered Friday morning at the Quincy High School marquee to e-mail the governor and Branch County representatives. They used the subject line “Quincy Community Administration Sweeps Criminal Sexual Conduct Under The Rug”.
A Facebook page has also been launched called “Quincy Speaks Out.”
In promoting Friday morning’s gathering, a post on the Facebook page stated, “we will be heard, and stand against the excessively complex procedures that result in detrimental delay and inaction. We will not allow complex procedures to allow for truth to be swept under the rug.”
Farrell is facing six charges of criminal sexual conduct in Branch County including two first degree counts. He was employed by the Quincy School District for 20 years before resigning in January on the same day the district placed him on leave in connection with the allegations of improper conduct.
A number of parents during last weeks school board meeting made accusations that teachers and administrators ignored warnings about Farrell that came from students along with parents and that the red flags went up long before he was arrested.
A Branch County District Court probable cause hearing for Farrell is scheduled for June first. He is being held in the Branch County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
