PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) – Bicyclists in Kalamazoo, Marshall, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids and cities all over the U.S. participated in the Ride of Silence last evening.
It was begun a decade before five Kalamazoo riders lost their lives last year.
One of the survivors of Kalamazoo’s bike tragedy, Sheila Jeske got on a bike for the first time since the crash last night, and joined the 160 riders who turned out for the event.
Organizer Tim Krone, who owns Pedal Bicycles says the first purpose of the event is to remember those who have been killed or injured in traffic mishaps, and the second is to demonstrate that cyclists have a right to be on the road.
A ride commemorating the Victims of last year’s tragedy in Cooper Township is planned forJune 7th, taking the same ride they had planned to take that night.
