HARRISON, MICHIGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan Governor Rick Snyder is ordering flags to be lowered in honor of the lives lost in the South Texas church shooting.
All U.S. and Michigan flags will be lowered at state government buildings through Thursday.
In a statement, Snyder said, “The people and state of Michigan stand in support of Texas and offer our prayers to the victims, their families and loved ones.” Snyder is urging residents, businesses, schools and local government to also lower their flags.
A couple of high school sweethearts from northern Michigan were among the victims in the Texas church massacre on Sunday.
Robert and Shani Corrigan were both from Harrison, Michigan where they grew up, graduated from the local high school and he went into the Air Force. She went with him, eventually retiring in the Sutherland Springs area near Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.
Clare Co. Sheriff John Wilson says the couple still has family here in Michigan.
A Candlelight vigil for the couple was held in Harrison last night.
