COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It didn’t look good for the backers of a proposed Coldwater Community School District bond and millage question for most of Tuesday evening, but thanks to strong support in the City of Coldwater, the nearly $30 million millage and bonding proposal was approved Tuesday 1,867-1,747.
Voters in the City of Coldwater helped push the proposal over the finish line as it was passed in the city 957-712. Until the numbers came in from the Dearth Center, the proposal was trailing. The no votes were the majority in Algansee, Bethel, Butler, California, Kinderhook, Ovid, Quincy #2 and Union Townships.
With the approval, Coldwater school officials can now move ahead with plans for a new 4th and 5th grade building which will be built at the current site of the Coldwater Little League diamonds on Western Avenue.
It will be within walking distance of Legg Middle School and the Doctor Robert W. Browne Aquatic Center. The new school will replace the nearly 60 year old Lakeland Elementary School building in about four years. The funds will also pay for new buses and building improvements throughout the district.
