WASHINGTON, DC (WTVB) – 7th District Congressman Tim Walberg joined fellow Republicans in the US House on Thursday in approving sweeping tax reform.
Not a single Democrat supported it but Walberg feels it will primarily provide relief to the Middle Class.
He said on the House floor, “Hardworking families in Michigan have been squeezed for too long under our broken tax code. Our plan is geared towards giving low and middle-income families a break, increasing take-home pay, and putting more money in people’s pockets. By easing the tax burden on small businesses, it will allow them give out raises, hire more workers, and invest and grow our economy here at home. The bottom line: This bill is a win for families and their future. I urge the Senate to take swift action on tax reform so we can provide more jobs and bigger paychecks to the workers who need it most.”
A number of bi-partisan analysts say Congressional Republicans are lying and that some in the middle class may actually wind up paying more, and over time most of them will, while the rich will get most of the benefits.
Democratic Congressional Candidate Paul Clements, who is running against Southwest Michigan Congressman Fred Upton, says the GOP is only telling half the story.
A vote in the US Senate is expected to come sometime after Thanksgiving.
