BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek family is getting some bad news right before the Holiday.
Their home caught fire late Saturday afternoon and killed their family pet.
They were not home at the time. Firefighters were dispatched to 65 Meadowlawn Ave at about 5:45 pm and the first crews on the scene observed fire and smoke coming from the basement and first floor.
Despite the fact that the hole had burned through the floor, crews were able to work around it to put out the flames.
The fire marshal is investigating to try and determine the cause. No one was injured.
They estimate the damage to the home at about $60,000 and about $15,000 to the contents.
