BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — It will be a long weekend for William Wolters of Calhoun County, who spent the last week on trial for alleged sexual assaults on two young girls.
A girl who was 15 at the time of the alleged crimes testified she had no recollection of any assaults but her younger sister testified there were drugs, alcohol and sex, .
The Homer man took the stand and testified that he was taking anti-depressants last year that made him impotent, denying allegations that he gave the girls drugs and alcohol.
Two former inmates testified that they heard Wolters admit to the crimes, but they were dismissed as jailhouse snitches by the defense during closing arguments.
The jury deliberated for five hours on the four first degree criminal sexual conduct charges that Wolter faces, before breaking for the weekend. The 12 jurors will report back on Monday morning to try to reach a verdict.
BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man who was once charged with murder, and even identified by the victim as his killer will serve less than a year in jail on a reduced charge, because there just wasn’t enough evidence.
31-year-old Michael Wilson was initially charged with shooting Joseph Flowers outside a party in 2012, and the prosecutor certainly made it sound like he was guilty of that crime at sentencing, but that trial never happened.
Instead Wilson was sentenced to 2 years after agreeing to plead guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, but with credit for time served, he will be a free man in six months.
