PRAIRIEVILLE TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf has released a lot more information about a weekend domestic dispute that led to the shotgun slaying of 46-year-old Brian Douglas Reed.
69-year-old David Cooper, who lived with Carol Reed, the dead man’s mother, was taken into custody for questioning and remains a person of interest in the shooting at the home in the 15,000 block of Burchette Road in Prairieville Township.
Detectives say Brian Reed was taken in by his mother two years ago after he finished a lengthy term in the California Prison System.
A dispute erupted in the home, ending with Reed’s shooting death early Saturday morning.
Detectives will compile information from their interviews, forensic evidence, the results of the autopsy and leave it up to the Prosecutor’s office to decide if it was a justifiable homicide or whether charges should be filed.
